[Sandy] is a superb hostess! The guests loved
her. As you know, an Innkeeper must wear a lot
of different hats—hostess, reservation clerk, cook,
housekeeper, decorator, supervisor, etc.
Having owned her own Inn, Sandy most certainly has
the qualifications to competently do what it takes
to run a successful Inn.
Jean Cowell
Whitestone Country Inn
Kingston, TN
"Sandy came into our inn and very quickly adapted to
our routine. We were able to be away from the
business with complete confidence that our guests
would have a good experience
while we were gone. Sandy gave them that and
more. Her people skills, her culinary skills, and
her ability to manage the business portion of the
inn were superior.

Sandy Shotwell
is a seasoned innkeeper with many
years of on the job training. Her extensive
experience makes her uniquely qualified to provide
you with outstanding innsitting or innkeeping services.
Innkeeper and Inn Owner
Sweetwater Inn, Culleoka, TN (1993-1998)
Finding herself a widow with three nearly grown children, and needing a reason
to get up each morning, Sandy moved back
to her home state of Tennessee and became an
innkeeper. Defying all the rules about not
“reinventing the wheel”, she bought a 1900 house,
oversaw an extensive renovation, and opened the Sweetwater Inn in 1993. There she
ran the small inn specializing in high quality service,
weddings, and food service.
Sandy also served two terms as
President of Tennessee Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers
Association in addition to Secretary, Regional VP,
Vice President, and Chairman of the
Board. During her service to TBBIA, Sandy
chaired the committee that developed the quality
and standards guidelines for their association’s
inspection program. Because of her strong feelings
about the growing concerns of quality in inns, she
made the implementation of this program a priority
during her terms as President.
Assistant Innkeeper /
Events Planner and Wedding
Coordinator
Whitestone Inn, Kingston, TN (1998-2000)
After selling her own inn in 1998, Sandy went to work
for Whitestone Country Inn, a Four Diamond AAA and
Select Registry property, where she assisted the
owners with management and food service planning,
and developed and executed their wedding and
event program, serving as Weddings and Events
Coordinator.
Innsitter
/ Quality Inspector
2000-2004
During this time, Sandy served as the inspector for
Quality Standards programs of the North Bed and Breakfast
and Inns Association,
Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia, and
Bed and Breakfast Association
of Kentucky, and Florida Bed & Breakfast Inns
association, traveling over 8,000
miles per year to inspect member properties of those
associations. Overall Sandy estimates she has
performed 2000 inspections over the years. During
the months when she was not conducting inspections,
Sandy worked as an innsitter taking jobs throughout
the Southeast and as far away as Alaska.
Wedding and Event Coordinator
/ Asst. Manager
1906 Historic Pine Crest Inn and Restaurant
Tryon, NC
(2004-2007)
In addition to
coordinating weddings and events for this Select
Registry property, Sandy also worked in Guest
Services and as an Assistant Manager. On the
National Register of Historic Places, the Pine Crest
Inn has a 4-diamond restaurant, event facilities,
and 35 guest rooms, many located in cottages on the
property.
Sandy
is comfortable managing your inn
whether it has 4 or 44 rooms, and can customize her role
depending on your specific needs. She can work as an innsitter, with full responsibility for
a small property, or can readily become part of your team
to cooperate with your existing staff and fill in the
gaps left by your absence.
Daily innsitting fees generally range from
$150-$250. Personalized rate quotes are always provided
and may vary with consideration for travel expenses,
housekeeping requirements, pet care, etc. Fees
for long-term innkeeping or inn management positions
must be considered individually. Contact Sandy to
discuss your needs.
